Born and raised in Toronto, Paula is a second generation daughter of parents who immigrated to Canada from the Açores.
Like most immigrant families of that time, the kids, who all share some type of creative talents often worked, contributing to their family economics. They had to be self sufficient which meant they had to grow up fast. Critical thinking and resiliency was a necessity.
As the only bilingual individual in the home, Paula was heavily relied on to support the communication needs of her family. By the time she was a teenager, she had been in four separate schools, enabled several real estate transactions, and translated mature and complex topics related to labour, government, and social services. As a result, she became especially adaptable to change, and highly skilled at communicating.
As a young adult, Paula's tenacity and self determination optimized an entry level contract in banking administration. She would go on to build a successful 23 year career in the banking technology industry, developing into a trusted advisor, and mentor.
In 2021, Paula put into acton a strategy to transform her career path. Not afraid to do the work, she self invested in education and training, made some bold decisions, and diversified her skills portfolio by exploring new industries. During this exploration, she came to this realization.
"When I mapped out the accomplishments I was most proud of, I noticed a pattern. In each win, I ceased or produced the opportunity to inject what I love, into what I was asked to do. This desire to connect; to help others succeed or be their best is weaved into who I am. I see the forest for the trees. My superpower is that I effectively translate change, and help others see it too."
Paula is a PROSCI Certified Change Practitioner and she holds a full program certificate from the University of Toronto's School of Continued Studies (SCS) in Digital Strategy & Communications Management.
Most recently she completed a second SCS certificate program for Advanced Marketing and a full scholarship program with Jelly Academy in Digital Marketing. When asked about her Marketing Training, she explains,
"Managing change effectively requires the recognition of who you seek to serve, and how to make things better for them. I love a quote from Seth Godin about the "why" of marketing, he says, 'I'm not leaving behind victims, instead I'm opening the door for people to do better.'
In today's competitive market, regardless of industry, the affect and impact from marketing to your audience is embedded in everything, therefore I believe Seth's quote is applicable to change management too. "
